Not complex enough
(2024)
I experienced the consultation process for redundancy in my day job where my technical skills were assessed against other colleagues. One comment, along with my scoring, stood out to me - ‘not complex enough’. I wanted to use art making as a way to process the difficult feelings that arose from this process.
Whilst I was on the ArteSumapaz residency I found a banana plant branch on a hike, I was intrigued by its texture and wanted to use it for printmaking. In the end I used it as an outlet for an action painting, using the movements of my body to direct the paint in a cathartic release.
