Textured papers experimentation

I’ve been experimenting with creating different textures to repurpose them into new works. In this experiment I created 3 textured papers:

Paper 1. Watercolour and salt. I’ve been using this technique for a while, I like how the salt moves the watercolours in different directions.

Paper 2. Acrylic paint and washing up liquid. A totally different take on adding texture! I mixed the two together and blew it onto the paper through a straw, quite messy but very fun.

Paper 3. Acrylic paint and misc objects used for printmaking. A real variety on this paper including using some bubblewrap and mugs for making marks. I also had fun adding water to the paint, sticking paper together and ripping it apart to make some nice residue texture.

Once the papers are dry, it’s time to decide which part to cut out and use! This is one of my favourite parts of the process, I find it very soothing to choose.

For the final piece, I wanted to keep it very minimal and use the negative space to frame the cut-outs. This piece is 29 × 42 cm. Next time I’d like to try larger scale.
