ArteSumapaz

2024

I was fortunate enough to spend my first artist residency at ArteSumapaz, in the rural mountains of Cundinamarca in Colombia. Being completely immersed in this much nature was really inspiring and exciting to experiment with different mediums and found material.

I really enjoyed documenting the environment of ArteSumapaz with found materials to create prints and marks. I documented these different marks in my sketchbook as well as developing ideas from it, incorporating collage techniques to create new landscapes and patterns.

Ink, acrylic paint, granular gel, found material.

Gathering materials in and out of the painting studio and starting to make prints and document them in my sketchbook. My favourite mark was part of a bee hive that had fallen from the roof of the painting studio. I used my prints to make landscapes, trying to create them as similar as possible to the view I saw every day at the residency.

Ideating on this idea of landscapes, I created more imaginary versions by using more found material in the studio to make collages.

I also cut up some of the prints into different shapes and created a small animation, it was really fun to be more playful. You can view the results on Instagram.
